The Faculty of Engineering, University of Kurdistan (Iran) and the Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University (Denmark), agreed to develop academic exchange and cooperation in education and research. They agreed to collaborate in:
a) Exchange of students
b) Exchange of professors, researchers, scholars and staff
c) Exchange of scientific material, and information
d) Joint research projects, publications, patents, and other activities within the range of interest of both universities
e) Joint conferences, workshops, and seminars
This agreement is result of Dr. Qobad Shafiee’s negotiations with head of Department of Energy Technology, John, K. Pederson, during his summer visit at Aalborg University. The agreement was signed by John K. Pederson, and Prof. Hassan Bevrani, Vice Chancellor for Research at University of Kurdistan, August 29, 2017, in Aalborg, Denmark.
Prof. Bevrani and Dr. Shafiee visited Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University on 28-29 August 2017. They had separate meetings with Prof. Frede Blaabjerg, program leader of Efficient and Reliable Power Electronics; Prof. Josep M. Guerrero, program leader of Microgrids; Prof. Remus Teodorescu, Associate Prof. Dezso Sera, and Associate Prof. Tamas Kerekes, program leaders of Photovoltaic Systems, to extend collaborations with department of Energy Technology. They also visited most of the laboratories in the department of Energy Technology, the Microgrid Research Laboratory, DC Microgrid Laboratory, High and Medium voltage Laboratories, PV Systems Laboratory (PVLAB), Grid Integration Laboratory (GIL), Harmony and Reliability in Power Electronics Laboratories.
Prof. Bevrani and Dr. Shafiee had a collaborative meeting with Prof. Kai Strunz at TU Berlin, and visited his laboratory, the SENSE Smart Grid Lab, on August 2017.
Prof. Bevrani gave an intensive one-month course on Power System Monitoring and Control, at TU Berlin, on July-August 2017.
Prof. Bevrani and Dr. Shafiee gave scientific talks on Microgrids Dynamic and Control in Control Systems Group, TU Berlin, on August 2017.
The 5th International Conference on Control, Instrumentation, and Automation (ICCIA) will be organized by University of Kurdistan with cooperation of Iranian Society of Instrumentation and Control Engineers to be held in fall 2018 in Sanandaj (IRAN). The worldwide audiences and scientists and engineers from academia and industry will come together to exchange the view and experiences based on the most up-to-date and complete view of control techniques, with the widest coverage of application fields.
The Smart/Micro Grid Research Center (SMGRC) at University of Kurdistan is seeking for a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate interested in working on dynamic, control, and protection of microgrids. The successful candidate must have outstanding achievement in his/her doctoral research and possess independent research abilities and ambitious scientific goals. Dr. Qobad Shafiee has been invited as a lecturer in the PhD/Industrial Course on AC Microgrids, Aalborg University, Denmark. He will visit the Microgrids Research Program at Aalborg University in late April 2017.
Dr. Bevrani, the program leader of SMGRC, has been invited as the Conference Committee Chair of the 2017 3rd International Conference on Renewable Energy and Development (ICRED 2017), which will be held September 25-29, in Berlin, Germany.
Dr. Bevrani, the program leader of SMGRC, has been invited as the Conference Program Chair of the 2017 International Conference on Advanced Technologies in Energy and Electrical Engineering (AT3E 2017) which will be held in Bali, Indonesia during Aug.24-27, 2017.
Dr. Bevrani has been invited to have a visit, joint research and presenting an intensive lecture on Microgrids Impacts on Power Grid Stability and Control at the TU Berlin, Germany in Summer 2017.

The Smart/Micro Grid Research Center (SMGRC) at University of Kurdistan with cooperation of the Iranian Society of Smart Grid and IEEE Iran Section will hold the 8th Iranian Smart Grid Conference (SGC2018) in October 2018. This conference tends to provide the latest researches and technologies in the scope of smart grids and microgrids by providing keynote speeches, papers presentation in the technical-special sessions, holding workshops educational-research special sessions, and expert exhibition in this scope.
This book discusses relevant microgrid technologies in the context of integrating renewable energy and also addresses challenging issues. The authors summarize long term academic and research outcomes and contributions. In addition, this book is influenced by the authors’ practical experiences on microgrids (MGs), electric network monitoring, and control and power electronic systems. A thorough discussion of the basic principles of the MG modeling and operating issues is provided. The MG structure, types, operating modes, modelling, dynamics, and control levels are covered. Recent advances in DC microgrids, virtual synchronousgenerators, MG planning and energy management are examined. The physical constraints and engineering aspects of the MGs are covered, and developed robust and intelligent control strategies are discussed using real time simulations and experimental studies.
Dr. Qobad Shafiee, the program co-leader of Smart/Micro Grid Research Center, has recently been elevated to Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Senior Member is the highest professional grade for which IEEE members can apply, and requires five years of significant performance as a criterion. Only nine percent of more than 421,000 members in over 160 countries have achieved this grade.
